Mutahi Ngunyi asks President Ruto to listen to Kenyans

Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has advised President William Ruto to consider listening to the cries of Kenyans.

In a statement posted on his X account (formerly Twitter), Ngunyi explained that many Kenyans have become hostile to President Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza government.

He added that there was no need for the President to become more popular abroad when Kenyans are crying.

Additionally, he urged the President to take time and address some of the issues affecting citizens in the country instead of just launching development projects for them.

“Dear Ruto: Take time to listen to Kenyans. The ground is hostile. And dishing out development at Uhuru Park will not help you,” Ngunyi stated.

“You are talking to yourself. Period. You are popular abroad with Muzungus. But at home, we are hostile. Take time to listen. Truth report,” he added.

The political analyst made the remarks shortly after the president returned from the United States where he attended the UN General Assembly.

He formerly worked as former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s technical advisor and even campaigned for Raila Odinga in the August 2022 presidential election.

Ngunyi was a fierce critic of President Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza government before he changed his tune in August 2023.

However, when Ngunyi declared his full support for President Ruto, he admitted that he had earlier misjudged him through a dynasty lens.

“Public notice: I have defected to William Ruto. I misjudged him using the dynasty lens,” he stated.

He continued, “And only a fool does not change his mind. I started Project Hustler Nation. Now I must complete it.”

The renowned political analyst explained that he had no other option apart from supporting the president since the majority of the people from the Mount Kenya region were supporting the government.
