Members of four families in Mwingi are mourning after three people from Mwingi West and one from Ngomeni, Mwingi North were brutally attacked and killed by unknown assailants at Alinbogiri in Dadaab, Garissa county.
The four whose bodies had multiple gunshot and stab wounds were attacked while asleep on Friday June 7, 2024 where they were sleeping at a construction site, 10 kilometres from Dadaab.
The killing comes barely a month after seven others from Mwingi lost lives following an IED attack in Elwak, raising the concern on the state of security in the Northern part, especially for the non-locals.
Caroline Kasyoka, a sister to one of the attack victims said the family had suffered a lot as they tried to transfer bodies from Dadaab to Mwingi for burial arrangements.
“In the morning I had prepared tea, and after having tea with my children, I received a phone call from Dadaab, informing us that my brother has been killed,” she said.
Kasyoka added that the family is now appealing to the government for assistance to support the widow and young orphans, after the death of her brother who was the main breadwinner.
At the same time, Francis Muli Musila noted that the four were killed at night after a disagreement among contractors at a construction site the previous day.
“My brother was brutally murdered in Dadaab, but as a family we are appealing to the government to provide security to ensure other citizens working in the region are safe as they continue to work there.
“The incident happened when the victims had gone for work as usual, but there was a disagreement among the contractors, leading to some workers being killed in the evening at the construction site,” said Muli.
