“My sister Gladys Shollei, I will always love you and cherish you!” – Gachagua

Embattled Deputy President Rigathi on Tuesday, October 8 invoked memories of his struggles during the retired President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration, and how Uasin Gishu Woman Representative Gladys Boss came through for him.

While defending himself against the 11 grounds of an impeachment motion against him before the National Assembly, DP Gachagua recalled a time when he was arrested and taken to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters.

“Honorable Shollei, I heard what you said in Eldoret, and I heard what you said this morning that I should be sent to prison. My sister, I am a grateful man. I remember and never forget. During the last administration when I was arrested on fabricated charges for standing with President William Ruto against the wish of the government at that time, Gladys Boss Shollei came and sat with me at DCI headquarters,” Gachagua recalled the fond memories.

He added: “She brought me tea, brought me lunch, sat with me, comforted me. At court, she coordinated the collection of KSh12.5 million as my cash bail. He came to see me in Gigiri for four days and had very kind words for me.”

After Kenyatta’s reign in power came to an end, William Ruto and his running mate Gachagua were able to take over power, after winning the August 9 2022 Presidential Election.

But fast-forward to 2024, the relationship between Ruto and Gachagua took a turn for the worse, and the former Mathira MP has been forced to defend himself against accusations lodged against him in a motion that seeks to oust him.

Boss is among the MPs who pronounced themselves publicly and supported Gachagua’s impeachment.

“Despite what you have said my sister [Gladys Boss], I do remember that one good thing that you did for me, and I will love you and cherish you for the rest of my life,” Gachagua said as he concluded his defense.

MPs are expected to take a vote today to impeach or save DP Gachagua.
