Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has revealed that before the 2022 general elections, his sons asked him not to back William Ruto for presidency.
Gachagua made the remarks on Sunday June 30, 2024 during a church service in Kaplong, Bomet County.
The deputy president explained that his sons raised concerns following the obstacles he faced while supporting Ruto’s presidential candidacy.
“When we backed President William Ruto’s bid, we encountered numerous challenges and resistance from the ruling administration,” Gachagua recounted.
“My children witnessed the difficulties I experienced and feared it could endanger our family and assets,” he added.
He mentioned that his sons convened a gathering with their mother, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, to express their concerns about the potential consequences of his political stance on their family.
“At that meeting, my sons articulated their concerns that my political affiliation could jeopardize our family and result in property loss,” said Gachagua.
“I presented my arguments in favour of supporting Ruto, and with the support of my wife, we took a vote. The decision was evenly split, but as the head of the household, I made the final call that we stand with President William Ruto.”
