Tanzanian comedian Umar Lahbedi Issa popularly known as mzee Mjegeje- man behind viral ‘kata simu tupo site’ phrase has passed on today morning at the Mwananyamala Referral Hospital in Dare es salaam.
His death has been confirmed by his manager Real Jimmy.
Mzee Mjegeje was famously known for his comedy through the viral videos he created on TikTok and Instagram.
In 2022, his phrase ‘Kata simu, tupo site’ was all over the internet both here in Kenya and Tanzania as netizens started juxtaposing it in all of their day to day conversations and unbearably cringe Tiktok videos.

In the original video, Mjegeje could be seen talking with a person on his phone yelling repeatedly, “Kata simu tupo site we don’t like disturbance of the head you understand.”
His fans have been saddened by his death and shown their love for him by posting heartfelt comments online.
The cause of his death and has not yet been disclosed.
