Kenyan songstress Nadia Mukami has returned to the country with some candid insights to share.
Fresh from her trip to the United States, Nadia engaged with bloggers at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, where she openly discussed why she refrains from using the title ‘wife’ to describe her relationship and her expectations regarding “baby mama compensation” from her partner for the time she spent raising their son alone.
Nadia emphasized the main reason she avoids the ‘wife’ label is out of respect for her father and village elders, as dowry has not been paid.
She clarified that her baby daddy and fellow artist, Arrow Bwoy, understands and respects her perspective, acknowledging that he has yet to fulfill the dowry requirement.
“He has not yet paid the dowry. So it would be very bad for my father and the elders if I claim a status as a wife. He (Arrow Bwoy) understands si ati ni kwa ubaya. He even knows I keep repeating this message,” Nadia explained.
She emphasizes that her statements are rooted in truth and openly communicated with Arrow Bwoy’s knowledge and acceptance.
“It’s the truth. Even Arrow Bwoy knows, and he is not mad. Before I go and say anything on social media, I know my partner.
“There is nothing that he’s ever said about me that has ever upset me,” she continued.
Nadia then addressed her expectation of receiving a “baby mama allowance” from Arrow Bwoy, given that he left her to care for their infant on her own shortly after giving birth.
Expressing her need for compensation for the two months she spent raising their child alone while Arrow Bwoy was on tour, Nadia stated, “I feel I need an allowance because he has been touring. He went to Australia when the baby was six weeks for two months. So he needs to pay me for all that work I’ve put in.”
She emphasized that while it is her responsibility, it is also his, and she deserves compensation for her efforts.
This conversation comes on the heels of Nadia’s claim that she is the wealthiest female artist in the entire East African region.
