Nairobi: 2 workers crushed to death while offloading glass from a container

Two casual worker’s were crushed to death while offloading glass panes at a warehouse in Pangani area, Nairobi.

During the incident, Peter Muiruri (35) and Jeremiah Wambua (30), were crushed to death by a heap of glass panes they were offloading from a container.

The incident took place at a warehouse in the Ushirika Refu area in the evening of June 10, 2024.

Despite efforts by their colleagues to rescue them, the two men were trapped and could not be saved.

According to the police report, the warehouse management was helping police as they continue with investigations into the incident.

The two individuals had been contracted to assist with offloading the glass at a rate of Ksh1200 each. Unfortunately, they were unable to complete the task.

Nairobi Regional Police Commander Adamson Bungei reported that they were alerted to the incident shortly after it occurred.

“Two men who were trying to get bread for their families died in the incident. We are investigating the tragedy,” he said.

The bodies were removed to city mortuary, where they will undergo an autopsy.

Meanwhile, detectives are also investigating the mysterious death of Chief Inspector Julius Tanui, a senior officer with the National Youth Service (NYS) in Nairobi. Tanui, aged 48, was reported missing for four days before his body was discovered at his home.

According to the details, Tanui was last seen on June 6, and his absence remained unaccounted for until June 10, when his body was found at his residence.

The circumstances surrounding Tanui’s death are currently under scrutiny by the authorities as they work to determine the cause.
