Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested three suspects with 298 pellets of cocaine concealed in 3 teddy bears at their house in Donholm, Nairobi.
In a statement on Sunday May 26, 2024, DCI noted that the three were arrested during a crackdown on drug trafficking in Nairobi.
“As the DCI tightens the noose on drug traffickers, three suspects found with 298 pellets of cocaine concealed in three teddy bears have been arrested at their house in New Donholm area, Nairobi.
“Acting on intelligence, Sharon Debra Achieng’, 25, Leon Ochieng’, 28 and Ronald Onyango, 25 were intercepted yesterday by a team of ANU & OSU crime busters with a black suitcase, whose contents were a few clothes, toiletries and three teddy bears,” DCI reported.
On ripping the teddy bears open, 298 pellets of cocaine weighing about 6.8kg estimated at Sh27.5 million in street value were discovered, alongside several air tickets for different destinations in the name of the female suspect.
Also found was Sh37,000 cash believed to be proceeds of the illegal trade.
Meanwhile, the DCI appreciated members of the public for sharing information that led to the arrest of the suspected drug traffickers.
The DCI also issued a warning to drug traffickers, that their misplaced efforts will only earn them tickets to courtrooms and correctional facilities.
The arrest comes a day after police arrested two women in Kisauni, Utange area, Mombasa County on May 25, for allegedly peddling cocaine.
In a statement by DCI, the two suspects, Amina Musa Chirunga and Saumu Ali Khamis, were found in possession of sachets of cocaine worth an estimated street value of KSh495,000.
The arrest was made by officers from the Anti-Narcotics Unit acting on a tip-off.
Upon reaching the suspects’ house they conducted a search, leading to the discovery of the cocaine, commonly known as “nose candy.”
