The iconic Nairobi Charter Hall is set to come alive from April 17 to 19 as it hosts the 2025 Kenya Open Boxing Championship, a flagship event on the national boxing calendar that will feature elite and league-based boxers from across the country.
Organized by the Boxing Federation of Kenya (BFK) in partnership with the Nairobi County Boxing Association, the championship will bring together top-tier male and female national team boxers alongside rising stars from various counties and institutions.
This championship promises intense competition as debutants with bold ambitions prepare to test their skills against established champions. Among those expected to grace the ring is six-time national light middleweight champion Boniface Mogude, known for his calm demeanor and lethal execution in the ring.
The event will also be closely followed by BFK Competition Secretary John “Rule Book” Waweru, whose national ranking book may be tested by a fresh wave of talented newcomers eager to upset the odds and force a reshuffle in the established boxing order.
The Kenya Open comes just weeks after the 2025 National Intermediate Boxing Championship held in Thika, where Nairobi County emerged as the overall winners. Nairobi secured six gold medals out of the sixteen contested weight categories, finishing ahead of Kisumu and Mombasa counties in a show of strength that reaffirmed their status as the powerhouse of Kenyan boxing.
This three-day championship at Charter Hall is expected to draw large crowds, with fans anticipating high-stakes bouts, potential upsets, and the emergence of new national prospects.
