Nairobi City Thunder has displayed unmatched dominance in the ongoing Road to BAL Elite 16 East Division Competition in Nairobi.
For the Bradley Ibs-led squad to guarantee a spot in the coveted Elite Basketball Africa League, they will need to defeat the City Oilers in the semifinals.
A 100-point win in the back-to-back games set the pace for the newly birthed team from Nairobi.
The competition kicked off on Thursday, 28th November, with four head-to-heads.
Nairobi City Thunder blew out MMB from South Africa 102-59 in the fully packed Nyayo Gymnasium.
On Friday, NCT met Cape Verde Champions Kriol Star; another dominating performance saw the Kenyan side walk away with a 104-71 victory.
The Thunder coaching staff attributed good defensive adjustments and team depth at the bench as the factors for winning.
“We knew our opponents were good shooters, and we employed a tight defence to cover them… We had a deep technical bench of 12 players as compared to Cape Verde’s team of six. Effective player rotation also yielded the deserved victory,” said Mgendi.
Games resumed on Sunday following the much-needed Saturday break. Despite displaying some tenacity against Thunder early in the game, the Bravehearts Basketball Club was unable to win. NCT held on to win 91-68 to finish the group stage undefeated.
Thunder will face Ugandan side City Oilers Basketball, who lost to Urunani in a heartbreaking comeback win.
Thunder is seeking to take Kenyan basketball to the next level with its maiden appearance at the BAL.
