Nairobi County Serves Over 5,000 Free Meals at Hilton Square for Customer Service Week Finale

As Nairobi County wraps up Customer Service Week today, more than 5,000 free meals have been distributed to residents at Hilton Square since October 7.

The initiative, which attracted large crowds, was designed to highlight the county’s commitment to improving customer service and to offer residents a direct experience of the services available.

At the “Dishi na County” booth, where the food distribution took place, Customer Service CEC Rosemary Kariuki emphasized that the meals provided were similar to those served to schoolchildren through the county’s feeding program.

“We provide nutritious hot meals to over 310,000 learners in Nairobi. This event gave parents and guardians a chance to see what their children enjoy every day through the Dishi na County program,” said Kariuki.

Launched just over a year ago in August, the Dishi na County program offers affordable meals to students across the city’s 17 sub-counties.

“Under Governor Sakaja’s leadership, we are able to serve nutritious meals to learners for just five shillings,” Kariuki noted.

In addition to the free meals, Customer Service Chief Officer Zipporah Mwangi highlighted that the event gave Nairobians an opportunity to learn more about county services, including the Unified Business Permits.

“We’ve simplified the process—businesses now need just one license, unlike before when multiple licenses were required,” Mwangi explained.

Several county departments, including those handling mobility, the liquor board, education, and finance, set up booths at the event, allowing residents to engage directly with officials and have their concerns addressed.

This interaction is seen as a significant step toward improving customer service delivery.

The week-long celebration not only brought the county government closer to its residents but also raised awareness about the various services and facilities available to them, showcasing Nairobi County’s efforts to enhance service delivery and build stronger connections with the public.
