Nairobi County to build three new Basketball Courts ,says Sports Chief Officer

Nairobi County has launched an ambitious sports infrastructure project aimed at decongesting existing facilities and improving access to modern sports venues.

According to Oscar Igaida, Chief Officer for Youth, Talents, and Sports, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja’s administration has begun constructing three new state-of-the-art basketball courts and several community stadiums to enhance youth sports development.

“We are constructing three basketball courts in Jericho, Umoja, and Kayole in partnership with Hennessy,” Igaida confirmed.

According to Igaida the county government also plans to develop several community stadiums. Over the next three years, small stadiums will be established in California, Mbotela, and the Uhuru Sports Complex, with another planned for Nairobi West.

Additionally, several major stadiums are set for completion within the year.

“Joe Kadenge Stadium will be ready by the end of this year. We will install the carpet within the next three weeks, followed by terrace expansion and other amenities,” Igaida revealed.

Woodley Stadium is also progressing, with ground leveling currently underway.

“Before the year ends, it will be ready. Both stadiums will help ease the pressure currently on Dandora Stadium,” he added.

According to Igaida,Governor Sakaja has further committed to upgrading Woodley, Kihumbuini, Mwiki, and Githurai stadiums by year-end.
