It seems some people take “carrying extra baggage” to a whole new level. A U.S. national, Jarod Tyler Roberts, found himself in deep trouble, literally, after an ill-fated attempt to smuggle cocaine from Alabama to Saudi Arabia ended with him writhing in pain in a Nairobi hospital.
His crime? Ingesting multiple pellets of cocaine, only for one to get stuck in his intestines like an unchewed piece of gum.
From Drug Trafficker to Hospital Patient
Roberts, who was temporarily residing in an Airbnb in Nairobi’s Westlands, had planned to fly out on Ethiopian Airlines at 6:00 PM, making a pit stop in Addis Ababa before reaching Saudi Arabia.
But instead of boarding a flight, he found himself boarding a hospital bed.
On February 16, after experiencing severe abdominal pain and symptoms of excessive drugging, his friend rushed him to the hospital. Doctors, realizing something was seriously off, conducted an endoscopy and discovered the culprit, cocaine pellets lodged inside him like hidden treasure in a pirate’s chest.
Detectives, Doctors, and Drug Pellets
The hospital immediately alerted anti-narcotics detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), who arrived just in time to witness the medical team retrieve three pellets from Roberts’ rectum.
The tests confirmed their suspicions that it was pure cocaine, weighing a total of 57.98 grams.
A further examination revealed yet another pellet stubbornly stuck in his small intestines, refusing to budge.
Medical personnel are now working to remove the remaining package before it causes even more complications or an unexpected explosion of powder in the worst way possible.
With his travel plans permanently grounded, detectives have confiscated Roberts’ travel and personal documents, ensuring he won’t be going anywhere except, to a Kenyan courtroom. Once he recovers, he’ll be facing serious drug trafficking charges.
If you’re thinking about using your body as a walking drug container, maybe reconsider. Because when things go south, they don’t just go south—they get stuck.
