A firearm that was stolen from a female police officer in Kasarani on February 16 2024 was found on Sunday May 26, 2024 abandoned at the gate of Githurai Police Post.
Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei said the riffle had 23 bullets when it was recovered.
“The good thing is that it has not been used in any crime so far,” he said
Elsewhere, a team of officers drawn from Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) and Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) recovered an AK47 rifle in Meru.
In a statement on May, 26, 2024, police noted that the officers team acted on intelligence information and proceeded to a residential house of one Geoffrey Thuranira, 29, in Murunya Kabachi area Mutuati sub-county.
Upon entering in the house, officers found his wife , Naomi Mutheu, 21, in the company of her baby ,four months and other family members.
The officers searched the house and in the store they seized suspected narcotic drugs too with one bale of bhang, valued at about Ksh100,000.
According to the police, the bhang is suspected to came from Ethiopia, suggesting the suspect might be involved in drug trafficking.
They also recovered the serviceable firearm, make AK-47 rifle, serial number not visible, and 20 rounds of ammunition.
Police were chasing Geoffrey, who ran away from his home by jumping over the perimeter wall and disappeared in the banana plantation.
The investigative officers arrested the wife and held her at Mutuati Police Station pending escort to DCI headquarters for further processing.
Among the crimes reported, none have matched the analysis conducted on the weapon. As of now, no arrests have been made in relation to the incident and the items recovered.
