Nairobi: Man abandons pistol in church after repenting

Authorities are searching for a man who left a pistol at a church pulpit during a dramatic repentance incident.

The event occurred in the afternoon of Sunday, July 7, 2024 at the Instant Miracle Centre located in the Mukuru Kwa Njenga slums, Nairobi.

According to the police, the man, described as middle-aged, placed his pistol on the pulpit before fleeing on foot, leaving the congregation in shock.

Three church leaders recounted that they were conducting a service, and it was the time for repentance.

The lead pastor had called on the congregants to stand and repent their sins.

At that moment, one man stood up, walked to the pulpit, drew a gun from his groin area, and placed it on a table.

The man then ran from the scene, causing the others who had stood up to repent to scramble for safety, unsure of what was happening.

The weapon was secured, and the police were summoned to the scene, where they confirmed it was a real firearm.

The police identified the pistol as a Colt Double Action 45, though it lacked a magazine at the time of recovery.

Authorities are now searching for the man who surrendered the weapon.

The weapon has been sent for ballistic testing as the hunt for the gunman continues.

Police believe the man intended to surrender the weapon but was unsure of the proper place and time to do so.
