Nairobi: Police officer shoots colleague dead during fight at a bar in Gigiri

A police officer shot his colleague, killing him instantly during an argument at a bar in Gigiri, Nairobi, on Sunday March 9, 2025 at night.

During the incident, the police officer shot another colleague, who was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

The three police officers were among a group of revelers at a bar at the Gigiri police lines when they disagreed on some issues before a fight broke out.

One of the officers, attached to Parliament, reached for his pistol and fired shots at his colleagues, killing one on the spot.

According to witnesses, the officers were having food and drinks when the altercation broke out.

Police reported that some of the people present scampered for their safety before other colleagues arrived and disarmed the shooting officer.

Nairobi police commander George Sedah confirmed the incident, saying that the assailant officer is in custody as investigations continue.

“We don’t know what led to the unfortunate incident, but he is in custody pending further action,” he reported.

A similar incident happened last month outside a bar in Ruaraka, Nairobi, where a police officer shot and killed a colleague during a confrontation.

Consequently, a Nairobi court on March 4 allowed the detention of the police officer at Ruaraka police station for seven days pending completion of investigations.

This was after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations sought to detain Police Constable Kipkoech Tarus for 14 days.

Tarus, an officer attached to the VIP protection, shot dead Raphael Kimuli Wambua, who was attached to the Central Bank of Kenya.
