Naivasha man nabbed with 27 phones in suspected theft operation

Detectives in Naivasha have arrested a 33-year-old man believed to be involved in the illegal trade of stolen mobile devices.

Acting on credible intelligence, officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) conducted a raid on the suspect’s shop within Naivasha town, where they found him in the act of “flashing” stolen phones an attempt to wipe data or change identification details.

During the operation, authorities recovered 27 different mobile phones, a HP laptop, and a mobile phone flashing toolkit.

The DCI reported that the discovery pointed to a well-organized operation involving the refurbishment and possible resale of stolen electronics.

The suspect was taken into custody at Naivasha Police Station, where he is being processed ahead of his court appearance.

This arrest comes just hours after a separate high-profile theft incident in Nairobi’s Embakasi area.

In that case, police apprehended two individuals linked to a burglary that occurred on April 20, 2025, at a warehouse along Mombasa Road.

The break-in led to the theft of goods valued at approximately KSh17.6 million.

According to police, the perpetrators broke into the warehouse during the Easter holiday by cutting through the iron sheet roofing.

Once inside, they accessed storage areas and the accounts office, making off with a wide range of electronics and other valuables.

The stolen items included 363 pieces of 43-inch Hisense televisions, 20 units of 20-inch HB TVs, 11 Hisense soundbars, four HP laptops, mobile phones, desktop computers, school bags, spare parts, and even CCTV servers.

Authorities are continuing investigations into both cases. The twin incidents highlight growing concerns over sophisticated criminal networks involved in electronic theft, and law enforcement agencies are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
