Nakhumicha unveils ambitious plans for Universal Health Coverage

Health Cabinet Secretary Nakhumicha S. Wafula has unveiled ambitious plans for the Social Health Authority (SHA) to deliver efficient, affordable, and non-discriminatory healthcare services to all Kenyans, a significant stride towards achieving Universal Health Coverage.

Speaking at a Nairobi Hotel during discussions with the joint Committee for Health, Nakhumicha emphasized that SHA would eliminate access limitations seen under the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF).

Responding to inquiries on funding criteria, the CS highlighted the vital role of actuaries from the Ministry of Health and NHIF in conducting a comprehensive analysis.

The Cabinet Secretary assured lawmakers that implementing the Act would address past challenges in funding medical bills.

The CS stressed that the final SHA document, reflecting the majority views of Kenyans through nationwide public participation, would ensure adequate healthcare funding.
