Nakuru family cries for justice after 78-year-old kin was hacked to death over land dispute

A family in Gilgil, Nakuru Country, is crying for justice after their kin was allegedly murdered in cold blood by one of their neighbours.

The 78-year-old Joseph Kasarari is said to have been murdered last week by a neighbour and his four sons with whom they had a land dispute, who later fled the scene.

According to a postmortem report conducted at the Annex Funeral Home in Nakuru, Kasarari was hit on the head with a sharp object, leading to severe bleeding and death.

“The cause of death is partial decapitation, involving the spinal cord. He had injuries on the head, neck arms and legs,” government pathologist Titus Ngulungu said, adding that the report showed Kasarari was hacked more than 10 times.

The father of 10 was found dead on his land in Gilgil on October 31, 2024.

The dispute, the family says, has been culminating between the suspect and the deceased, alleging that they have been living in fear following threats being issued to them by the suspect’s sons who are yet to be arrested.

Gilgil Sub-County Police Commander Wistone Mwakio on Tuesday, November 5 told TV47 Digital that two suspects had been arrested and will remain in custody for 14 days, awaiting mental assessment test as the search for two more continues.

“Kesi iko na DCI, walipelekwa kortini Naivasha na wakapewa 14 days ili wapelekwe medical check up, as investigations continues,” the police boss told this reporter.
