Police in Nakuru County have arrested a mother and her son after they allegedly doused the woman’s husband with acid.
A sombre mood engulfed the village after Elijah Matoke succumbed to his injuries four days after he was rushed to Nakuru County Referral Hospital.
Confirming the arrests, Nakuru West OCPD Anderson Njagi said that the mother and son are helping detectives with investigations after the Wednesday, December 11 incident.
The police boss says that once done with the probe, they will be charged with murder.
On the fateful day, neighbours heard cries of help from the deceased house.
“Hiyo siku asubuhi, mimi nilikuwa nimelala kwangu. Nikasikia nduru ‘wooi mnisaidie’ ya kwanza, ya pili, ya tatu nikajua kuna shida. Nikatoka nikaenda, kufika nikafungua curtains nikamuona anakaa pink. Nikauliza watoto ni nini imefanyikia baba yenu? Wakasema hatujui ni nani amemwagia acid,” Lilian Magomere, one of Matoke’s neighbours, told journalists.
Relatives have painted Matoke and his wife’s three-year marriage as troublesome, characterised by endless wrangles and quarrels.
“Hii mapenzi yao haijakuwa mapenzi ya pesa, nimekuwa nikisolve issues kwa hii nyumba several times, kuna wakati mwingine nimekuja huku, kama Matoke hana pesa, Matoke sio mwanaume wa nyumba,” Benard Angwenyi, Matoke’s brother, noted.
