Nakuru: Two men exchange wives after cheating in their marriages

Two men in Kipsapta village, Kuresoi North, Nakuru County resolved to exchange their wives after cheating in their marriages.

The incident has shocked area residents, who wondered how the two men agreed to exchange wives to resolve cheating allegations in their marriages.

Village elders and local administrators condemned the incident, insisting that it was demeaning women in the community.

As a result, Nyumba Kumi chairperson David Rono convened a meeting on Saturday March 30, 2024, with an aim of resolving the marriage disputes involving the two men in his village.

Speaking during the meeting, Rono condemned the actions of the two men, adding that it was wrong for people to exchange their spouses.

“As elders, we are disappointed by the rare occurrence of men exchanging wives in this village, a thing that is considered taboo among the Kalenjin community,” said Rono.

Rono added that they have resolved to hold another meeting on April 1, in order to listen to the two couples and offer a solution and way forward.

The incident happened after Robert Kirui disagreed with his wife before she went missing, living behind their two daughters.

Kirui learnt later that his wife had eloped with another man. He tried to seek intervention from the village elders, in order to reconcile with his wife but he was not successful.

After he failed to reconcile with his wife, he decided to take the wife of the man who had eloped with his wife on a revenge mission.

“When I realized that the man had decided to take my wife, I chose to take revenge by taking his wife, and his wife also agreed because we were both having problems with spouse infidelity”, said Kirui.

According to the elders, the move by the two men exchanging wives was dangerous and may lead to chaos.

Meanwhile, both wives had two daughters each, who are below the age of 10 years. The women had agreed to move, leaving the children under the care of their fathers.
