Nakuru: Two men to spend 15 years in prison for gang-raping

News

A court in Nakuru has sentenced two men to 15 years each in prison after they were found guilty of gang rape, contrary to Section 10 of the Sexual Offences Act.

Nakuru Senior Resident Magistrate Emmanuel Soita slapped Geoffrey Moriasi and Isaya Mogaka with the jail term after being convinced by prosecution’s case.

The court heard that the incident took place on the night of February 7, 2023, at Kaptembwo Estate in Nakuru West Sub-County, within Nakuru County.

Nakuru Senior Resident Magistrate Emmanuel Soita concluded that Geoffrey Moriasi and Isaya Mogaka indeed gang-raped their victim on the night of February 7, 2023 at Kaptembwo, Nakuru.

Abducted, blindfolded and gang-raped

The victim was abducted by the accused, blindfolded, and taken to an unknown house.

They then repeatedly raped her throughout the night.

During the verdict, Soita concluded that there was sufficient evidence, including the identification of the accused, lack of victim consent, and proof of the criminal act and thus concluded that the prosecution successfully proved the case beyond a reasonable doubt.

The prosecution, led by Prosecution Counsel Annastacia Mumbe, presented five witnesses in the case.
