Nandi: Husband kills wife at in-laws’ home, ends his own life

In Kibaita village, Nandi County, a family is shattered after a married man allegedly killed his wife before taking his own life.

The tragedy unfolded on Wednesday night, following a heated dispute between the couple.

Hanise Juma is said to have ambushed his wife, Winnie Akusuha, at her family’s residence, ending their lives in a horrifying sequence of events.

Police reports reveal that the couple, parents to three children, had been living in Nairobi.

Until a recent fallout prompted Winnie to leave with her children and seek refuge at her family home in Narok.

According to Nandi South police commander Maina Nduriri, Juma tracked Winnie to Narok, arriving at her family’s home undetected on Wednesday evening.

At approximately 7 p.m., he found her in the kitchen preparing supper.

In a sudden, brutal attack, he stabbed her multiple times, leaving deep wounds on her head, face, chest, and stomach.

The deceased’s father, Musa Keya, recounted hearing a commotion in the kitchen.

Rushing to investigate, the family found Winnie gravely injured as Juma fled the scene.

Despite their attempts to save her, the wounds proved fatal.

In a grim turn, Juma’s lifeless body was discovered a few hundred meters from the home.

Police suspect he ingested poison and then slit his throat, succumbing to excessive bleeding.

The couple’s tragic deaths have left the community in shock, mourning the loss of two lives and grappling with the devastating impact on their three children.

Both bodies have been transported to Jumia Hospital morgue in Vihiga for post-mortem examinations as investigations continue.

Community leaders have called for increased efforts to address relationship conflicts before they spiral out of control
