Lawyer Ndegwa Njiru has revealed why the rising Mt Kenya caucus identified as ‘Kamwene’ was formed.
Njiru was speaking on TV47’s breakfast show MorningCafe which airs from Monday to Friday.
“The reason why unelected leaders in Mt Kenya are coalescing around Kamwene is that we have realized that the individuals we elected in Parliament have abandoned the people,” the lawyer opined.
Njiru criticises Mt Kenya leaders
Lawyer Njiru accused Mt Kenya leaders of going to bed with the government hence forgetting their push for the One Man-One Vote-One Shilling policy.
“Kamwene leaders are coming up to compliment what elected leaders have neglected. They are going to push for the One Man, One Vote, One Shilling policy,” he added.
The Kamwene political forum was pioneered by NARC-K leader Martha Karua and former Ndaragwa MP Jeremiah Kioni.
He threw jibes at his fellow panelist, Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu, for failing to raise the matter during President William Ruto’s five-day tour in the central region.
“When kina Nyamu went to Nyeri and had their feast of rice and nyama they forgot about the whole concept of what ails us as Mt Kenya region,” Njiru stated.
A National Conversation
Morning Cafe’s host Fred Indimuli however questioned Njiru on why the matter was not discussed within the larger Azimio coalition.
“There is no one to propel these elected leaders for the conversation to be held at a national level because they have been held captive,” the lawyer responded.
Senator Nyamu countered Njiru’s sentiments, stating that Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, the defacto Mt Kenya leader, was looking out for his people.
“It is not true what my colleague here is alleging. We know of the coffee reforms His Excellency Rigathi Gachagua is championing across the Mt Kenya region.
“We know of the cartels who have held hostage the coffee sector. They are the brokers, distributors, and we are trying to dismantle this chain they have created so that the farmer has maximum benefits,” she explained.
DP Gachagua was recently in Columbia seeking markets for Kenyan agricultural products, as well as inviting investors to set base in the country.
