Kiharu member of parliament (MP) Ndindi Nyoro has distanced himself from ongoing succession politics, maintaining that he fully supports President William Ruto and his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua.
Nyoro made the remarks on Saturday January 27 at Kanyarkwat village in West Pokot county during the burial of Pastor Mary Moroto, the wife of Kapenguria MP Samuel Moroto.
Moroto’s wife succumbed to cancer after battling the illness for a very long time.
“All Kenya Kwanza leaders, me included, are solidly behind president William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua.
“We want the same unity to prevail in government as we support our leaders,” said Ndindi Nyoro.
He added that the entire Mt Kenya region was supporting the leadership of President Ruto and his deputy Gachagua.
The Kiharu MP emphasized that this was not time for pushing succession politics, calling on all elected leaders to focus on service delivery.
At the same time, Pokot South MP David Pkosing slammed politicians who have begun early campaigns, urging them to give President William Ruto time to deliver on his promises.
Sabina Chege on Mt Kenya succession politics
Nyoro’s remarks emerged at a time when a section of leaders from Mt Kenya region had endorsed him to replace DP Rigathi Gachagua as President Ruto’s running mate in the 2027 elections.
The debate had sparked mixed reactions from Mt Kenya politicians as some maintain that Gachagua was the region kingpin.

For instance, nominated MP Sabina Chege had insisted that Nyoro should give Gachagua a chance to serve as Mt Kenya kingpin.
Speaking during an interview with TV47 on January 15, Sabina Chege explained that although Ndindi Nyoro has all it takes to take over the leadership of the country, this was not the right time for him.
“Ndindi Nyoro has all it takes to take over the leadership of the country, but the issue is timing because for now the senior most person in the region is DP Rigathi Gachagua,” said Sabina Chege.
Malala on UDA succession politics
However on January 24, United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party Secretary General Cleophas Malala disclosed that President William Ruto will maintain Rigathi Gachagua as his deputy until 2032.

According to Malala, the proposal for President Ruto to drop Gachagua as his running-mate in the 2027 presidential election is far-fetched.
“That [Ndindi Nyoro] is a strong member of UDA and he is a leader of the future but what we are asking for is patience as we focus on our agenda. For now, Ruto and Gachagua till 2032,” Malala said in an interview with Radio Citizen on January 24.

“We have a lot of confidence in Ruto and also a lot of confidence in Gachagua and we don’t want to see people disrespecting him,” Malala added.
