Former President Donald Trump has reignited his battle against diversity, equity, and LGBTQ inclusion in schools.
Signing a sweeping executive order titled “Ending Radical Indoctrination in K-12 Schooling.”
The order, issued just over a week after taking office, directs federal agencies to investigate and prosecute teachers who acknowledge or support transgender and nonbinary students.
At a Bronx barbershop event, he told voters, “There are places where your son leaves for school and comes back a girl.It happens.”
The executive order instructs the attorney general to collaborate with state officials
Teachers at risk under Trump’s rule
In prosecuting teachers who use a trans student’s chosen name or pronouns
Further recognize nonbinary identities, or allow students to use bathrooms aligning with their gender identity.
It also suggests that educators could be charged under laws meant to prevent the sexual exploitation of minors and the unauthorized practice of medicine.
Beyond targeting LGBTQ students, the order threatens federal funding for schools and programs that discuss gender, race, or systemic inequality.
Within 90 days, the Departments of Education, Defense, Health and Human Services, and Justice must create an “Ending Indoctrination Strategy”
To cut financial support for any programs perceived as promoting gender idealogy or “discriminatory equity ideology.”
The order also reinstates the 1776 Commission, an initiative from Trump’s first term that promotes “patriotic education” and discourages social justice discussions in schools.
This latest action follows a series of executive orders aimed at dismantling diversity initiatives and LGBTQ rights.
Within days of returning to the White House, Trump has moved to redefine sex under federal law.
Ban transgender people from military service, restrict access to gender-affirming care for minors, and eliminate diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs in government.
