Hero police officer escapes death by a whisker after shoot-out with robbers
A senior police officer escaped death narrowly after he was involved in a shoot out with robbers last night.
Inspector Daniel Karani Muriungi and his team was battling a five-man gang of robbers that had attacked traders inside Mairi Complex, Isebania, Migori county.
According to an update by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the officers were responding to distress calls from the traders.
"A fierce shoot out then ensued pitting the officers against the robbers. However, the assailants’ feeble fire was no match to the officers’ ferocious barrage of fire & like cornered rats, they scampered into different directions leaving traces of blood from their injuries," says DCI.
Traders Hassan Osman and his customer Mohamed Ismail suffered head injuries inflicted by the gang using machetes. They were taken to the local BNM Hospital where they are receiving treatment.
Inspector Muriungi also escaped with gunshots, but received treatment and was discharged in a "fair condition".
Migori-based DCI officers have launched a manhunt for the suspects. Scenes of Crime Personnel are also combing the scene for evidence that will assist police in identifying the suspects.
