Three days after losing in the FA Cup final, Chelsea got the better of Leicester City after beating them 2-1 at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea endured a frustrating first half after Timo Werner had a penalty appeal controversially turned down and two goals disallowed by the Video Assistant Referee.

After a dominant display in the first half that came short to be capped off with a goal, a determined Chelsea came calling again in the second half.

Eventually, a goal came from the unlikeliest of sources- defender Antonio Rudiger, who turned in Mason Mount's gorgeous corner kick with his knee to give the hosts the vital lead.

Jorginho doubled Chelsea's lead from the penalty spot after Werner was fouled by Wesley Fofana in the 66th minute.

Kelechi Iheanacho pulled one back for Leicester with 10 minutes left to play, but Chelsea was able to ward off any threat posed by Leicester.

Chelsea leapfrog Leicester

The win sees Chelsea leapfrog their opponents to third spot in the Premier League table with 67 points, one ahead of Leicester and four ahead of fifth-placed Liverpool who still have a game in hand.

The loss could see Leicester down to fifth and out of the Champions League spots if Liverpool win at Burnley on Wednesday.

Elsewhere, Manchester United cemented their second spot following a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford with the already relegated Fulham. Edinson Cavani's 40-yard goal-of-the-season contender was canceled out by Joe Bryan's second-half header.

The win takes Ole Gunnar Solskajear's men to 71 points, four ahead of the third-placed Chelsea with only one match to go.
