Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives have arrested the husband of Esther Wambui, the young woman who was murdered, her mutilated body stashed in a briefcase and dumped near GSU Recce squad camp in Kimbo.

Justus Ombati, an officer at the DCI, confirms that they conducted the arrest after obtaining mobile phone conversations between Joseph Ngige and Wambui.

According to reports, Ngige escorted the deceased to her place of work at 5am on Monday.

Authorities are questioning why the husband never reported Wambui’s disappearance to the police or informed her colleagues at work despite his wife failing to return home in the evening.

It is alleged that the couple was experiencing marital problems with Wambui's co-workers claiming Ngige was a jealous man.

"Let’s just say Bobo (Wambui) had her own problems on love issues, and the husband was not comfortable," said a workmate to the deceased.

The husband, however, dismissed the claims saying they had never quarreled and that he never suspected her of anything.

Her employer at Gady Fast Restaurant in Ruiru, Patrick Ndung’u, says that she had worked there for only eight days and was punctual except on Monday, when she was found murdered.

A post mortem conducted on Wambui's body by Pathologist Dr. Simon Omuok at the City Mortuary on Friday, January 20 revealed she died of strangulation.

Esther's body had ink writings on the chest, both palms and both thighs which read “bwana ya mtu ni sumu". Passersby found the body on Monday at around 5:30pm.

"We believe the messages written on her body was meant to distract investigations," an officer aware of the matter said.

Ruiru Head of DCI Justus Ombati said the woman might have been killed elsewhere and dumped along Thika Road.
