Governors Waiguru, Twaha and Ghodana to face charges over alleged graft - EACC
Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru, and her counterparts Fahim Twaha (Lamu) and Dhadho Ghodana (Tana River) will face charges over alleged corruption.
Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) Chief Executive Officer Twalib Mbarak says their files are with the Director of Public Prosecutions, pending further action.
“We have investigated, we have our facts, let the DPP give his consent and we believe our cases against most governors are watertight," said Mbarak yesterday.
He refuted claims that charging the county bosses in the height of campaign season was a political witch-hunt. "These governors are from both sides of the political divide.”
Waiguru allegedly received imprest of KSh.10.6 million for trips she never made. Impeach over the issue at the Kirinyaga County Assembly in 2020, she was however saved by the Senate. But the issue hangs over her like a Sword of Damocles.
On hi part, Lamu's Twaha is alleged to have hired unqualified people to plum positions within the county, and without approval of the county Public Service Board.
EACC claims Tana River's Dhadho Ghodana irregularly procured cars and motorcycles. Also facing possible arrest is the county's executive committee member in charge of roads.
