Amani National Congress (ANC) Party leader Musalia Mudavadi now says that President Uhuru Kenyatta is setting up the next government for failure.

Mudavadi faulted President Uhuru's government, through Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani, for pushing for the increasing of the national debt ceiling from KSh9 trillion to KSh10 trillion.

According to Mudavadi, increasing the debt ceiling comes two years after the Public Debt Management Bill. Sponsored by Nambale MP Sakwa Bunyasi, the bill sought to establish a semi-autonomous authority to manage public debt.

The authority, if the Bill could have sailed through, would be tasked with monitoring and evaluating public debt-related transactions to ensure that they fall within the official guidelines and risk parameters.

The agency would also have been tasked with negotiating with creditors and advising the Treasury CS on borrowing.

"What has happened in terms of the national debt is like the Scotched earth policy. He is working like Sadam worked in Iraq. In short, he is setting up the next government to fail," Musalia said during a campaign rally in Busia.

Mudavadi also opines that the depreciating value of Kenyan currency compared to the U.S Dollar has been occassioned by President Kenyatta's 'over-borrowing'.

"For two years now, President Uhuru Kenyatta's government rejected the Bunyasi bill only to approve the increase in national debt two years later on its last day in parliament.

"The National Parliament, under President Uhuru Kenyatta's government, has pushed the national debt ceiling to KSh10 trillion. When Uhuru took over power, the value of dollar in Kenya was KSh100 but when he leaves we will be paying that debt at KSh125," Mudavadi lamented.
