In Summary

  • Shamimo Khavere says she stayed with the body for that long because she received express orders not to open the door of the room until Sunday, July 31.

  • Apparently, the deceased had told Khavere that he was not her brother as she thought, but her 'god'.

A middle-aged woman in Lurambi Constituency, Kakamega County, has shocked residents after she was found to be living with a decomposing human body in her house.

In a rather bizarre incident, Shamimo Khavere was reportedly living with the maggot-ridden body of his brother for close to a week, to the shock of Lyala villagers.

Confirming the incident, the area chief Samuel Shilabire said he got a report from Khavere's neighbours that flies and a foul odour were coming from her house.

The villagers, led by the chief, stormed Khavere's compound and discovered the corpse.

Polisi wameanzisha uchunguzi," said the local administrator.

'He's my god'

According to Khavere, she opted to stay with the corpse because she was obeying the wishes of her 'god'.

Apparently, the deceased had told Khavere that he was not her brother as she thought, but her 'god'.

Ukae na mimi ukijua mimi ni mungu'," she narrated to TV47 Digital.

She says she stayed with the body because she received express orders not to open the door of the room until Sunday, July 31.

"Baada ya siku moja mbili akapelekwa Kakamega hospital, siku ya tatu akarudi akasema hakuna dawa. Ijumaa nilimpa chai akaniambia hajihisi kula anataka kulala.

Irked neighbours

The irked villagers now want police to arrest the woman, suspecting that there is more than meets the eye regarding her story.

"Huyu mama huwa haongei na watu. Hata tulipofika na chifu hjapa alikuwa amekataa kufungua mlango. Hata hatumtaki katika eneo letu kwa sababu labda kesho atachukua mtoto wetu na akae naye siku saba baada ya kumuua," said Judy Khalumi, one of the villagers.
