In Summary
- President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday rallied the 1.9 million Coast region voters to vote for Raila Odinga, reiterating that his deputy William Ruto is bad for Kenya.
- He said this while launching the Sh4.5 billion Makupa Bridge. The completion of the bridge and the subsequent demolition of Makupa Causeway means that Mombasa has now attained full island status.
President Uhuru Kenyatta should not be faulted for endorsing the presidential bid of Azimio La Umoja One Kenya candidate Raila Odinga, Rarieda Member of Parliament Otiende Amollo has said.
The ODM Party lawmaker said that just like any other Kenyans, President Uhuru is within his democratic right to support any candidate of his choice.
According to Amollo, Deputy President William Ruto should have seen Uhuru’s support for Raila coming when the head of state announced during the funeral of ANC Party leader’s mother in Vihiga that Kenya cannot be ruled by two communities.
“The president said it was time for another tribe to lead for the sake of unity,” said Amollo, who was speaking on Thursday during a rally in Asembo Kandaria, where an independent candidate vying for the Rarieda parliamentary seat, Isaiah Munje, announced his withdrawal from the race in his favour.
