"We are already in a ditch that you threw us in" - Gachagua pours cold water on Uhuru's 'farewell' message to Mt. Kenya

In Summary
- President Uhuru Kenyatta was on a whirlwind tour of Nyeri and Murang'a counties on Saturday where he launched several projects.
- His open endorsement of Azimio La Umoja's Raila Odinga and Martha Karua apparently vexed Gachagua.
Mathira Member of Parliament Rigathi Gachagua has poured cold water on President Uhuru Kenyatta's Saturday, August 6, project-launching spree in the Mount Kenya region.
In a statement, the United Democratic Alliance presidential running mate also took issue with Uhuru's endorsement of the alliance's political nemesis and main challenger in the presidential race Raila Odinga of Azimio La Umoja coalition.
During the whirlwind tour of Murang'a and Nyeri counties, Uhuru inspected the ongoing expansion of the 84-kilometre Kenol-Sagana-Marua Highway, commissioned the Mwai Kibaki referral hospital in Othaya, the Chaka Industrial Hub [and Market], the rehabilitated Thika – Nanyuki Metre Gauge railway line, and the new Chaka Railway Station. President Kenyatta also broke ground for the construction of a Comprehensive Cancer Management Centre at Dedan Kimathi University of Technology in Nyeri County.
But it was the call on locals to vote for the Raila-Martha Karua ticket on August 9 that has apparently left a sour taste in Rigathi's mouth.
"You admonished the locals for reminding you of the covenant we had with William Ruto asserting that you could never honour a covenant to take your people to a ditch," he writes on social media.
"We are already in a ditch that you threw us in and we are struggling to get out. The only Kenyans not in the ditch are; your family, that of Jaramogi and the Moi one."
In a campaign tone, Gachagua says Uhuru's predecessor the late Mwai Kibaki bequeathed a vibrant and thriving economy "that you [Uhuru] have systematically destroyed through state capture and conflict of interest."
Gachagua also alleges that the rehabilitation of the Thika – Nanyuki Metre Gauge railway line was inspired by President Uhuru's private interests.
