A suspicious call made to slain Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) officer Daniel Musyoka is being investigated by detectives.

The Embakasi East Returning Officer who went missing last week before his lifeless body was found dumped in Oloitokitok, Kajiado County, is said to have received a phone call while at the East Africa School of Aviation tallying centre.

Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives have established that Musyoka excused himself and told his bodyguard, Administration Police Constable Dennis Maina Gichure, who had picked him from his residence, that he was going to make a phone call.

Officials are tracking the mysterious caller as it was after this that Musyoka was last seen alive.

A detective who spoke to Nation said, "Currently, the phone records are part of the focus as this investigation goes on. It will be important to know who is the person who made the call that saw the returning officer leave his work station never to be seen again until his body was found this week."

The signal from his phone was last detected in Mihang'o, Utawala area before it was switched off.

His colleagues described him as a humble, quiet man who was always alert and insisted that everything be done in the right way.

Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji on Wednesday said his office was closely monitoring investigations into the death.
