Baringo Deputy Governor Charles Kipngok dies aboard KQ flight to Mombasa

The identity of passenger who died aboard a Kenya Airways plane moments before it took off for Mombasa on Wednesday afternoon has been confirmed. 

Charles Kipngok, Baringo County deputy governor, was flying to Mombasa to attend the Council of Governors' induction event. 

His death was confirmed by his boss Governor Benjamin Cheboi who spoke to the media at the Lee Funeral home, Nairobi, where the body was taken. 

“It is a loss to us. We were just preparing to start the business of buidling our great county of Baringo,” Cheboi said.

Yesterday, Kenya Airways had announced the death of a passenger but did not reveal his identity.

“Kenya Airways PLC regrets to announce that a passenger developed breathing difficulties this evening while boarding KQ612 that was scheduled to depart for Mombasa at 1900hours...The passenger was pronounced dead by medical personnel at JKIA while the aircraft was still on ground,” KQ's statement said. 

This is the third unfortunate death involving a passenger aboard a Kenya Airways plane.

On September 2, 2022, a passenger died aboard flight KQ002 (Nairobi -New York).

Late last month, another passenger identified as Peterson Njuguna Mwangi, 66, died about KQ flight 003 from New York to Nairobi.
