Baringo Deputy Governor Charles Kipng'ok died on a Kenya Airways plane on Wednesday. The family learnt of his death on social media. 

The family of Baringo Deputy Governor Charles Kipng'ok learnt about his death from a news update and social media posts.

Mrs Lornah Kipng’ok, Mr Kipng’ok’s wife, was in the company of other family members when she received the news.

Mr Benard Korir, a worker, said that the family was already aware of his demise from WhatsApp groups and Facebook.

Diabetes and high blood pressure

The same was confirmed by David Biegon, a captain at the Kericho Golf Club, where the late DG was a member. 

"It was a very unfortunate incident, especially the way his demise was received by the family, who were on their own with no one to comfort them," he told Nation.Africa.

"He was a very social person and related very well with members of the public and the club members. His death is a big blow to all of us and we pray to God to give the family the fortitude to bear with the loss," he added.

Mr Kipng'ok was an active golfer for more than 15 years but he quit a year ago following health complications. He suffered from diabetes and high blood pressure.  

Death on a plane

He died aboard a Kenya Airways plane moments before it took off for Mombasa where he was flying to attend the Council of Governors' induction event. 

His death was confirmed by his boss Governor Benjamin Cheboi who spoke to the media at the Lee Funeral home, Nairobi, where the body was taken.
