Two women charged with attempting to defraud health insurance company KSh1 million

Two middle-aged women were on Wednesday, September 22 arraigned in Nairobi Milimani Court for allegedly conspiring to defraud Jubilee Insurance.

The two, Grace Atieno Okal and Gladys Atieno Mbuya, are accused of carrying out the crime on diverse dates between June 15 and August 8 2022 at Nairobi Women's Hospital, Adams Arcade branch in Nairobi with others not before the court.

They had the intent to defraud the insurance company by conspiring to obtain medical treatment amounting to KSh1,041,574.

Grace Okal, for instance, is accused of receiving medical treatment by fraudulently using Jubilee Insurance medical smart card knowing and intentionally purporting to be Gladys Atieno Mbuya - the rightful beneficiary of the medical insurance card.

They both denied the charges before Milimani Chief Magistrate Wendy Muchemi and were released on a cash bail of KSh150,000 or bond of KSh300,000.

The matter will be mentioned on 7th October 2022.
