Three die, six injured as matatu collides head-on with a bodaboda

Three people have been killed and six others seriously injured in an accident along the Sagana-Kagio Road in Kirinyaga County on Friday, September 23 morning.

The accident occurred when a PSV matatu collided head-on with a motorcycle carrying two pillion passengers.

The matatu was heading to Sagana from Kagio town when it collided with the motorcycle that was coming from the opposite direction.

Confirming the incident, Kirinyaga County Police Commander Mathew Mang'ira said that the rider and his passengers died on the spot.

The six occupants of the matatu who were injured were rushed to Sagana Health Centre, while the bodies of the deceased were taken to Murang'a Referral Hospital mortuary.

"Three people have lost their lives but we have commenced investigations to establish the actual circumstances under which the fatal accident took place," said Mang'ira.

One of the eyewitnesses says the scene of accident is a black spot, calling on the relevant authorities to erect safety bumps to prevent fatal accidents in future.
