Police inspector 'dies by suicide' a day after he survived an accident
A police inspector in charge of crime at Chogoria Police Station in Maara, Tharaka Nithi County was found dead in his house in an apparent suicide.
The unnamed officer is said to have take his life Wednesday, September 28 morning.
Confirming the incident, Tharaka Nithi County Police Commander Donatha Chali Kiplagat said the officer’s body was discovered by two of his colleagues who had gone to check on him.
Commander Kiplagat called on police officers to speak out when they are facing challenges and that suicide is not a solution to their problems.
"Police work is generally stressful but officers facing extreme challenges should seek guidance and counselling," she said.
Mohammed Jarso, Maara sub-County Police Commander said the deceased was involved in a road accident on Tuesday, September 27 but survived with minor injuries.
"I received the information at around 8am and when I went to the scene, I found the body of the middle-aged officer dangling from the [ceiling] of his room," said Jarso.
Residents say the officer was reserved and was always indoors unless when out on duty.
