The National Police Service Commission (NPSC) has invited interested candidates to apply for the position of the Director of Criminal Investigations following the resignation of George Kinoti.

In an advert posted on Thursday, September 29, the commission which is mandated to recommend to the President person for the appointment says that all applicants must be Kenyan citizens.

Requirements for Appointment

A person shall be qualified for appointment as the Director of Criminal Investigations if the person: –

  1. holds a degree from a University recognized in Kenya;
  2. has had at least ten years’ proven experience at management level of a public institution;
  3. has had a distinguished career in his/her field;
  4. has knowledge and experience in criminal investigation or policing;
  5. has proven relevant experience in any of the following fields: – management, law, economics, chain management, finance, governance and public administration.
  6. Meets the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya 2010.

Other Requirements

Interested applicants are expected to get clearance from the following bodies;

  1. Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC);
  2. Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA);
  3. Higher Education Loans Board (HELB);
  4. Credit Reference Bureau (CRB)
  5. Police clearance certificate from DCI

Duties and Responsibilities

The Director of Criminal Investigation shall: –

  1. be the Chief Executive Officer of the Directorate;
  2. be responsible for:-
  3. implementing the decisions of the Inspector General in respect of the Directorate;
  4. efficient administration of the Directorate; and
  5. the day-to-day administration and management of the affairs of the Directorate
  6. be responsible for the effective and efficient administration and operations of the Directorate;
  7. provide strategic guidance and direction for the Directorate;
  8. be responsible for the preparation of the budget and planning for the directorate;
  9. monitor and evaluate the Directorate;
  10. undertake supervision of the Directorate;
  11. coordinate training, research and development in the Directorate;
  12. provide internal oversight of the Directorate;
  13. improve transparency and accountability in the Directorate.
  14. co-operate and engage in joint security operations with the Deputy Inspectors-General of both the Kenya Police Service and the Administration Police Service, other Government departments and security organs, where necessary, when relevant, to ensure the safety and security of the public; and
  15. perform any other functions that may be assigned by the Inspector-General under the National Police Service Act or any other law.
Terms of Service

The gross monthly salary and benefits attached to the position will be as determined by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission vide Kenya Gazette No.8792 Vol.CXXIV-No.154 of 27th July, 2022.
