Kirinyaga gubernatorial candidate in the August 9 polls Purity Wangui Ngirici has filed a request for the withdrawal of an election petition challenging Anne Waiguru's re-election as governor.

The former Women Representative informed the court of her decision through lawyer Brian Khaemba during a pre-trial sitting.

The lawyer also requested the court to grant them seven days to draw, publish, file and serve the respondents an application for the same upon which the court shall make its ruling.

Presiding judge Richard Mwongo granted the applicants their requests and ordered the petitioners to do so before October 24.

Wangui Ngirici has since addressed the news on social media.

"I have decided to take a bold step; One that does not serve to advantage me or disorganise and disenfranchise the Governor but one that serves full advantage to the people of Kirinyaga . I therefore have instructed my lawyers to withdraw my petition against GVN waiguru," she says.
