Revealed: Ruto had prioritised teaming up with Kalonzo more than Mudvadi, Wetangula
Kenya Kwanza Secretariat member Peter Mbae has revealed that President William Ruto started pursuing Kalonzo Musyoka as early as the first half of 2021.
Speaking during TV47's Morning Cafe show on Monday, October 24, Mbae said that President Ruto had prioritised teaming up with Kalonzo rather than Musalia Mudvadi and Moses Wetangula.
"We (Kenya Kwanza) were looking for Kalonzo Musyoka for a very long time. We started pursuing him as early as last year because we knew his value.
"Immediately before we inked the deal, Kalonzo jumped back to Azimio and so we said we can't let the original National Super Alliance (NASA) remain the same and is when we went for Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula to try to disorganise something," Mbae said.
The governance expert added that Ruto knew for a fact that Kalonzo - who is the Wiper Democratic Movement Party leader - is still the Ukambani region political kingpin despite concerted efforts by Governors Alfred Mutua (Machakos), Charity Ngilu (Kitui) and Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni) to overthrow him.
"When Alfred Mutua, Charity Ngilu and Kivutha Kibwana met and had rallies in the three counties, we thought they were the new Kingpins but Kalonzo came from nowhere and held one rally and boom...he is the kingpin," he added.
Ruto: I offered Kalonzo a job
The revelation comes just hours after President Ruto on Sunday, October 24 said that he was ready to work with Kalonzo.
"I told you when I was here that if God willing I become president, I would involve my brother Kalonzo in forming the government and I want you people to know that I personally looked for him and we had a sit-down and I asked him to work with me but he said he wanted to try it in the opposition," Ruto said during a thanksgiving prayer session in Kitui.
