In Summary

  • Gladys Chania, George Mwangi's widow is the prime suspect in the murder case.
  • Chania and her co-accused, Maurice Mbugua, were released on a bond of KSh1 million and two sureties of similar amount each.

Police have arrested yet another suspect in the murder of Rwanda-based Kiambu businessman George Mwangi.

Confirming the arrest, homicide director at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, Martin Nyanguto, says the suspect - who is a farmhand at the home of the slain businessman - was arrested at his Gatundu home on Thursday, November 3 night.

Nyanguto says that the suspect has since been transferred to Nairobi for interrogation before his arraignment on Monday, November 7.

The arrest now brings to three the number of suspects arrested over the murder so far. Gladys Chania, the businessman's widow is the prime suspect.

Chania is accused of orchestrating the murder of his husband, whose body was found stashed in a polythene bag in Kieni Forest, Gatundu, Kiambu County two weeks ago.

Chania appeared before Kiambu Resident Magistrate Wilson Radin'g on October 28, a day after the slain businessman was laid to rest at his Mangu home, the same location police say he was murdered at before his body was dumped in the forest.

Another farmhand, Morris Mbugua, has also been arrested in the murder.

Chania underwent a psychiatrist test on November 1 at Mathare Mental Hospital in Nairobi.
