One person dead as five-storey building collapses in Ruaka

A five-storey building has collapsed in Ruaka, Kiambu County.
The building was still under construction collapsed over a neighbouring residential home. One person has been confirmed dead while one has been rushed to Kiambu Level 5 Hospital.
Rescue operations - led by officers from Disaster Response Unit - are still continuing, as the building collapsed just when workers were starting to troop in for the day's shift at the site.
The collapse comes only a few days after another high-rise building under construction came down in the Seasons area of Kasarani, Nairobi County.
Three people have so far been confirmed dead from the Kasarani tragedy. Yesterday, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja said the owner of the collapsed building should be charged with murder.
“The developer must be charged in court. We will liaise with DCI...he needs to be charged with murder. All those who are going on with such constructions [we] want to put them in notice. Just pull down those buildings or let us come for you,” he said.
