Free rides for Nairobi school going children - Governor Sakaja announces

In Summary
- Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has announced free rides for school-going children in Nairobi.
- The announcement comes after he held an engagement meeting with Matatu SACCOs today at City Hall.
All school-going children in Nairobi will now be enjoying free rides inside matatus and other PSV vehicles, Governor Johnson Sakaja has said.
The announcement follows a meeting between the governor and Nairobi Matatu Operators on Friday, November 18 at City Hall.
During the meeting, Sakaja assured the matatu operators that he will initiate talks with traffic police to ensure that matatus with students are not arrested for carrying excess passengers.
“I caution you to be responsible. Do not abuse this directive to carry excess passengers lest you find yourself in trouble with the traffic police. As the county government, we will involve them to ensure that they do not arrest matatus carrying students,” Sakaja said.
Held a successful engagement with all Nairobi Matatu SACCOS earlier today where we have agreed on a raft of measures to restore order and sanity in the city. Grateful for the cooperation from the sector. pic.twitter.com/CAJyCuiOgr
