Quack doctor Mugo wa Wairimu jailed for 29 years
- Mugo wa Wairimu has been sentenced to 29 years imprisonment after being found guilty of running an illegal clinic and drugging patients in order to assault them sexually
A Nairobi court has sentenced a quack doctor Mugo wa Wairimu to 29 years imprisonment.
Mugo has been found guilty of running an illegal clinic and drugging patients in order to assault them sexually. Wairimu is also serving a 11 years jail term in which he has completed three and a half years.
The magistrate who was handling his case, Wendy Muchemi, wrote in her judgment that Wairimu is a danger to society and should be kept away from the public.
"He is a danger to society instead of using the knowledge he says he acquired to improve society he went ahead by purporting to be a gynecologist and administering drugs to death," she said.
"My parents traumatised"
In a 2015 TV expose, Wairimu was depicted as a fake doctor who also allegedly sexually abused his patients at the Prestige Hospital in Githurai.
Prestige Hospital was found to be illegal and unregistered. During mitigation, prior to sentencing, he told court that it should be lenient as he still had the urge to serve humanity.
"I assure this court that I have learnt a lesson and would urge the court to give a lenient sentence that will allow me join my family and to continue serving Kenyans as a law-abiding citizen," he said.
He also pleaded with the court to be merciful to his octogenarian parents who were traumatized seeing him on TV because of the case.
"I have elderly parents who are over 80 years old and went without meals to make sure that their son has a secure future. Seeing the son on TV every day is traumatizing to them. They have not known peace because I've been in custody," he pleaded.
