Fourteen robbery with violence suspects have been arrested in Machakos County.

An assortment of crude weapons including machetes, knives and rungus were also seized from the suspects. In addition, police recovered numerous mobile phones suspected to have been stolen, and several rolls of cannabis sativa.

The arrest comes as police step up the fight against runaway crime being witnessed in several parts of the country. Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof. Kithure Kindiki has vowed tough action against the criminal, pronouncing that they "have nowhere to hide."

Earlier this month, Prof. Kindiki held a security meeting with Police Inspector General Japeth Koome, his two deputies Noor Gabow and Edward Mbugua and Director of Criminal Investigations Amin Mohammed Ibrahim.

The purpose of the meeting was to map out an ideal framework to anchor the review of security in the country and to plan for necessary interventions to enhance public safety.
