Residents of Mukuru Kwa Njenga slums in Nairobi are living in fear after threats and intimidation by an unruly gang operating in the area.

The residents say the gang of six men has been knocking on their doors in the dead of night demanding that they vacate their houses.

Jane Wanjiku Munyiri, owner of the residential plot with 11 is one of those targeted. The plot has several tenants housed in single rooms.

She says she has been living at the plot since 2002, when she acquired the piece of land. She says the gang has issued her with an ultimatum to vacate the plot by Friday December 9, lest they will forcefully throw her out and the tenants.

At 70, and ailing with cancer -compounded by a recent stroke-, Jane is now calling on the Nairobi County administration to resolve the matter fast.

She says she reported the threats at Villa Police Station but so far, police have taken no action.
