Speaker Kingi announces date for special sitting on Governor Mwangaza's impeachment

- Senate Speaker Amason Kingi has gazetted the date for a special sitting to hear charges against the governor.
The Senate will on Tuesday, December 20 hold a special sitting to hear the charges against which Meru MCAs listed as grounds to impeach Governor Kawira Mwangaza.
In a notice to Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot, Speaker Amason Kingi said that he had on December 15 received a letter from Meru County Speaker, informing him of the assembly's decision to impeach Governor Kawira.
According to Article 181 of the Constitution, Speaker of the Senate is requirted "within seven days after receiving notice of a resolution from the speaker of a county assembly to convene a meeting of the Senate to hear charges against the Governor."
The special sitting will be at 2:30 pm.
Governor Kawira Mwangaza impeached
Governor Kawira was impeached on December 14 after 67 out of the 69 MCAs voted in favour of an impeachment motion sponsored by Abogeta West MCA Dennis Kiogora.
The MCAs are accusing the embattled governor of nepotism, illegal appointments, unlawful dismissals, misleading campaigns against other leaders and gross violation of the Constitution.
